August 18, 2010. Steve Mathews driving the #15 Mathews Motorsports Ford returns to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this coming Saturday night at Mosport Speedway. The New Liskeard, ON driver has posted top-ten finishes in each of his NASCAR races this season and looks forward to his return to the half-mile oval at Mosport where his stock car racing career began.
It was just two years ago that Steve Mathews ran his first ever stock car race and quickly got everyone’s attention. In his first time behind the wheel of a stock car he competed in the Ontario Sportsman Series and Mathews scored the pole position and finished second in the event.
Mathews was just as impressive in his first ever NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race a year ago at Mosport Speedway. Competing against the best racers in the Country in his #15 Mathews Motorsports Ford Steven qualified fourth and finished the race in sixth position.
Now he returns to the challenging Speedway looking to add to his resume. "I am very comfortable with the Mosport track, even though I have only raced there twice, and I have high hopes of a good result for Mathews Motorsports" said the driver. "I am glad to be back behind the wheel of the #15 Mathews Motorsports Ford and I feel we have a car to contend" he added.
Prior to his stock car racing endeavors Steven Mathews was winning go-kart races in just about every category at Mosport, and has worked at the Mosport International Karting Academy. The Mosport facility is a very familiar place for young Mathews.
Mathews Motorsports has shown strong speed everywhere they go this year, and it is a team effort. “I would like to thank my hard working crew (Rick McColl, Gary Mead, Cale Mead, Jimmy Ireland, Paul Mathews, Bill Mathews, Jeff Vyes, Drew Setterington, Nathan Meneely),” stated Steven Mathews. “Racing is like a full time job and I have a great group of guys behind me.”
“We haven’t been able to run the full season as we’d hoped, but hopefully some marketing partners fall into place and you’ll be seeing a lot more of us” he stated.
