SHORT STORY
HOWARD WINS FORREST ROGERS MEMORIAL WORTH $10,000 AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY, KLINE GETS LATE MODEL WIN
BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 15, 2010 . . . For the first time in his long successful racing career Duane Howard was able to drive to victory in the Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lap NASCAR 358 Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway Saturday night. The win was worth $10,000 to the Oley, PA racer. Ron Kline (Salford) wheeled his V&M Towing/ING Financial No. 3 to his fourth win of the season in the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature.
At the drop of the green for the 29 car 358 Modified feature race Cliff Quinn took control and set the pace until the ninth lap when Carroll Hine III spun bringing out the caution. On the restart Kevin Albert Jr. went to the front and held the top spot until the 16th circuit when Duane Howard, coming from 16th starting spot, took the lead with Craig VonDohren close behind.
The balance of the 50 lapper was a tremendous driving display as Howard with VonDohren trailing weaved their way through the field until at the finish only six cars remained on the same lap with the leader. Howard brought the BPG Racing No.4 across the finish line with a comfortable lead over second place Craig VonDohren. Third spot was earned by Jeff Strunk followed by Meme DeSantis and Kevin Hirthler.
The early laps of the 20-lap Late Model feature had John Giesler in front with Bill Henning taking command on the 4th lap. Ron Kline, a three time winner, was working his way through the field and charged past Henning on the 13th lap when the leader bobbled in turn 2.
Kline had point leader Brian Shuey closing on him in the final laps but held on to grab his fourth win of the season. Shuey grabbed second followed by Henning, Randy Stoudt and Chuck Schutz.
The NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models will make up a doubleheader show of stock car racing sponsored by 3 Starz Landscaping on Saturday, August 21st at 7:30 p.m.

FULL RACE RESULTS STORY
HOWARD WINS FIRST FORREST ROGERS MEMORIAL WORTH $10,000 AT GRANDVIEW, KLINE WINS FOURTH 20-LAP LATE MODEL FEATURE
BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 15, 2010 . . . It was on his list of “things to do” at the beginning of the season and Duane Howard got it done on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway when he took the Chad Sinon owned BPG Racing No. 4 Modified to victory lane in the Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lapper for NASCAR 358 Modifieds. The win was the fifth of the season for Howard, increased his lead in the chase for the track title and earned him $10,000. It was the first time Howard, who has a huge resume of accomplishments, was able to win the prestigious race after finishing second several times.
In the companion 20-lap feature for the NASCAR Late Models Ron Kline drove his V&MTowing/ING Financial Services No. 3 to his fourth win of the season.
“The car was just hooked up,” said a very happy Howard in victory lane. “This is one we really wanted. I got the monkey off my back. It was an awesome race car and the racing (few cautions) was great tonight.”
Cliff Quinn went to the front at the start of the 50-lapper for the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and set the pace until the ninth lap when Carroll Hine III spun and Billy Pauch Jr. lost a wheel putting both out of action. On the restart after the caution Kevin Albert Jr. took control with Quinn and Brad Missimer giving chase. At the 15 lap marker Jon Kellner Sr. spun to bring out the caution and closed up the field on the leader. The restart saw Albert lead Missimer but on the next circuit of the one third mile clay oval Duane Howard, coming from 16th spot took the lead with Craig VonDohren, coming from 14th spot, close behind.
At the halfway mark Howard and VonDohren continued their duel for the win with the duo weaving their way through the 29 car starting field. With 10 laps to go Howard had managed to lap all but the top ten and had VonDohren, Kevin Hirthler, Brad Missimer and Mike Gular behind him in that order.
With just five laps remaining to reach the checkered flag Howard had VonDohren and Jeff Strunk, coming from 15th starting position, trying to catch him. Just six cars were still on the lead lap as Howard charged to the finish line grabbing the $10,000 first place money. Finishing behind the Oley racer were VonDohren (Boyertown), Jeff Strunk (Bechtelsville), Meme DeSantis (Temple) and Kevin Hirthler (Boyertown).
A four car tangle in the second turn brought out a caution before the first lap of the 20-lap Late Model feature could be run. Once the race did get started John Giesler set the pace for the first two laps before Bill Henning was able to charge to the front and set the pace until the 13th circuit when he bobbled in turn two allowing Ron Kline, coming from 7th starting spot, to grab the top spot.
Once in front the Salford racer was able to set the pace for the balance of the feature event grabbing his fourth feature win of the season.
Point leader Brian Shuey (Shoemakersville) grabbed second in the fourth turn of the final lap while Bill Henning (Lansdale) finished third followed by Randy Stoudt and Chuck Schutz.
The entire racing program was run off in little more than 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The 12-lap qualifying heat races for the 358 Modifieds were won by Jon Kellner Jr., Shawn Reimert, Troy Wink and Mike Gular. Winning the 10-lap consolation races were Jason Smythe and Chris Esposito. There were 46 Modifieds on hand.
Danny Snyder, Ron Kline and Randy Stoudt won the eight lap qualifying races for the Late Models.
Bill Henning earned the Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader Award in the Late Model feature while Duane Howard was the award winner in the 358 Modifieds. Ryan Godown picked up the Cargo Trailer Sales $50 Gift Certificate for finishing 10th in the 358 Modifieds while T.J. Mayberry earned the 10th place award in the Late Models.
Another doubleheader card of stock car racing featuring the NASCAR 358 Modifieds and Late Models is set for Saturday, August 21st at 7:30 p.m. and will be sponsored by 3 Starz Landscaping of Hatboro, PA.
