KARTS: Apollo Motorsports earns six podiums in WCC finale

Western Canadian based Tony Kart Team ends the series on a high note and launches new company website

Edmonton, AB – Apollo Motor Sports, Western Canadian dealer for the Tony Kart chassis and OTK accessories, ended the 2010 Western Canadian Challenge in fine style taking six podiums including four wins in the final weekend of double header racing action. Held at the ultra fast Stratotech Raceway, just 30 minutes from the team’s home base in Sherwood Park, AB, rounds five and six of the WCC gave the team an opportunity to showcase their speed and skill. The Apollo Motorsports team would field a total of six drivers covering all five Rotax Max classes, giving the green machine plenty of opportunity to lead the field.

“The team worked really well this weekend,” commented Kevin Dowler, owner of Apollo Motor Sports. “We have had good speed all year, just not the luck we needed to go with it. I’m really proud of the guys and the Tony Kart program.”

In Rotax Senior Max Noel Dowler paced the field all weekend taking pole on Saturday with a lap of 57.738 and followed that with the win in the prefinal. Noel would lead most of the Saturday final and just miss the win by 0.061 of a second, securing the second place spot on podium in round five Saturday action. On Sunday it was again Noel and his Tony Kart at the front early taking a second straight pole this time with a lap of 57.709 and then another prefinal win. In the final Dowler would have a great battle up front for the lead and grab a second straight podium as he took P2 at the line. Working with tuner Alex Speed the duo have combined for some serious hardware in 2010.

In Rotax DD2 Max Philippe Gelinas made a one-off appearance in the DD2 class and dominated the weekend. It was a clean sweep of the Saturday and Sunday docket for the talented Quebec native coming off a win at the Monaco of Trois Rivieres the weekend before. Gelinas, the 2010 Gatorz Challenge Senior Rotax Max Champion and Team Canada member, took the pole, the prefinal and the final on both days of racing and set the fastest pace of weekend.

Adam Dowler ran Rotax Junior Max. The second year Junior had excellent speed all weekend but no luck to go with it. Working with tuner Gelinas, the pair where able to get the potent Tony Kart package to the front. On Saturday a spin in the opening laps of the final in the back chicane ended Adam’s day. On Sunday at the mid point of the race an off-track excursion by another racer sent Adam scrambling, losing the fire in the engine and ending his race early for a second straight day.

In Mini Max it was Parker Thompson making a one off start in the WCC. Thompson dominated the class and like his teammate Gelinas in DD2, he would take pole, prefinal and final on both days to sweep the hardware on the weekend.

In Micro Max it was Griffin Dowler along with teammate Adam Robinson making their second appearance in the demonstration class. Look for these two young speedsters to run in an expanded Micro Max class in 2011.

The Apollo Motor Sports team recently released their new state-of-the-art website including a complete web store for all your karting needs. The Tony Kart dealer is making the most of their mid western location to service clients and customers throughout the western Canadian karting community.

“The new site is very cool. And very green,” smiles Dowler. “We are very proud of our team, our products and our new website. I hope everyone gets a chance to check it out.”

The Western Canadian Challenge may be over but the Apollo Motor Sports team has a lot of racing left to do in 2010. The team will head to Quebec for the ASN Canadian FIA National Championships in two weeks time. Following that look for the team to hit the SuperKarts USA SuperNationals in Las Vegas, NV in November.

“We are looking forward to the Canadian Nationals in a couple of weeks time,” continued Dowler. “Tremblant should suit the Tony Kart package well and I look forward to competing against Canada’s best racers.”
