EARLY EXIT FOR ANTHONY SIMONE AND Rx100 CHEVROLET
August 15, 2010. After a very encouraging three race swing through western Canada Anthony Simone and the 95 Rx100 team were excited to arrive for round number nine of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Trios Rivers, Quebec this past weekend. However after showing so well early in the weekend a part failure ended their race prematurely.
As the team took to the track during practice on Saturday Simone knew he had a strong race car. “The Rx100 car was really strong right from the start of the weekend” said Simone. “We put down some good practice laps and then had a really good one that gave us with the quickest lap of the session” he added.
During the afternoon qualifying session the Rx100 team looked for more of the same. Simone would post another sensational lap and line up fourth on the grid for the Sunday afternoon race. “We were not quite as good with the set up in qualifying” said the driver “and I just didn’t quite get the lap I wanted” he stated.
As the race began the battle up front heated up immediately and Simone quickly had the Rx 100 Chevrolet up into third position. “The team did a great job setting the car up for the race and I was just taking my time early on and waiting for the right opportunity” said Simone. “I wasn’t pushing the car hard at all” he added.
As Simone was looking to make his move into second spot he felt something go amiss with the car. “I had no warning but he Rx100 car all of a sudden became a handful” said the driver. Knowing the problem was significant Simone would bring the car to pit lane and let the team diagnose the issue.
It quickly became apparent the problem was a broken axle and the high hopes that the Rx100 team had for the day were not to be. “It’s a bit tough to swallow that our day ended so early but nobody on this team is going to be down for long” said the driver. “Sometimes you have a part failure like this and it’s just a part of racing. We’ll be busy this week and ready for the next race at Mosport” he stated.
