Delaware Speedway: CANUSA Motorsports release - Aug. 10/2010

Nights Ends with Wreck as Team CANUSA Struggles for the First Time in Months

(Dorchester, ON) –Jamie Ramsay and the CANUSA Motorsports Team entered the night of action at Delaware Speedway last Friday after a streak of positive runs dating back to the third race of the season.  The performance of the CANUSA / APC / Total Lubricants Chevrolet Impala had vaulted Ramsay to third in the championship point standings, with an eye on an outside opportunity to challenge for a track title.

The night started with a 10-lap qualifying event and Ramsay rolled from deep in the pack, but trouble found the #22 machine early in the event as he nosed the car into the wall on the outside of the front straightaway just before the first turn early in the race.  Ramsay spoke about the accident, explaining, “Another car started to move down to the bottom, and I tried to get to the outside of him, but he moved back up the track and I spun trying to avoid him when I got on the brakes.”

Jamie would restart at the back of the pack, and picked his way to a sixth-place finish after a solid run through the field.  “It was a solid run, and I caught the fourth and fifth-place cars, but just ran out of time.”

Ramsay would accept the green from the outside of the sixth row, but bounced off the wall shortly after the race started and could come to pit road shortly after the race started.  “Everybody got all mixed up, and I hit the wall trying to get through it.”  The crew was able to pull out the fender, and Ramsay continued.

The night would end for the CANUSA Motorsports Team just halfway through the feature.  As the car was heading into turn three, it started to leave a trail of sparks, and despite Ramsay’s best efforts, the car slid up the banking in turn three and hit the wall, ending the night.

Ramsay spoke about the ride, “We broke a left front shock mount and I had no control heading into turn three.  I’m all right, but my hands are a little sore because I didn’t let go of the steering wheel.  I don’t think we have a shot at the championship now, so our goals are to stay third in the points and win another race before the end of the year.  We had a pretty good stretch, and have been to the tech shack every night this year other than the first two.”

Point leader Sheridan picked his way through the field and held off Andrew Gresel to extend his point lead over Lindsay, with Jesse Kennedy rounding out the podium.

1.      Sheridan, 2. Gresel, 3. Kennedy, 4. Lindsay, 5. Mark Watson, 18. Jamie Ramsay

Heading into the next race, Friday, August 13, Jamie has a seven point lead over Gresel for third in the standings.
