BROCKVILLE, ON - It took over a year for Dana Aikins to get his first DIRT Sportsman win at Brockville Ontario Speedway. It only took a week for him to get his second. Aikins passed Tabatha Murphy around the half way mark of the 25 lap Sportsman feature on Saturday night at the Beast of the East.
Aikins then survived a couple of late race cautions for his second win of the week. Murphy meanwhile managed to survive a chunking right rear tire in the closing laps for a career best second place run. Sheldon Hoogwerf, whose car was in pieces after a crash Thursday night came through the field for third in front of Randy Earl and Chris Herbison.
Stephane LaFrance won his fourth 358 Modified feature of the season blowing by the leaders on the high side in the final 10 laps after starting 13th. Todd Stewart led most of the way until LaFrance came calling finally getting get the lead with four laps remaining. Stewart held on for second despite a late challenge from points leader Pat O Brien. Kyle Dingwall and Bobby Herrington rounded out the fast five.
Todd Raabe got a little closer to Kevin Fetterly in the Street Stock points chase scoring an impressive win in that 15 lap event while the points leader was plagued by suspension issues. Brother Peter Raabe was second followed by Kevin McRae, Steve Kearney and Darrick Eaton. Jeff Ciglich returned to the winners circle after many years taking the Vintage honours in a half hour 15 lap marathon. Wayne Riddell, John Gibson, Troy Bergeron and Denzil Billings were second through fifth respectively. Jean Marc Larose continues his domination in the Rookie class with yet another feature win leading almost the entire 16 lap distance. Chris Lloyd made some moves late for second followed by John Gifford, Dwight Feltham and Josh Kirkland. Ron Day rallied from starting 20th to finish 6th.
Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action next Saturday night, August 21st for a full race program plus the young stars tomorrow from the go kart ranks making a special appearance. The green flag drops at 7pm.
