16th RUNNING OF THE SHRINERS CLASSIC SET FOR THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT SCOTIA SPEEDWORLD!

(Halifax, NS – August 24, 2010) Scotia Speedworld's Weekly Racing Series will make its second and final attempt this season to run under the lights on a Saturday Night, rain canceled the July 10 event which was also slated for a Saturday evening. The forecast looks favorable and with any luck our Weekly Racers will have an opportunity to return to their roots for some Saturday Night short track racing.

On the docket is the 16th Annual Shriner's Classic as well as action from the Tirecraft Thunder and Lightning cars, Legends and Bandolero cars. Gates open at 5:00pm, heat races to determine starting positions on the grid get underway at 7:00pm immediately followed by feature racing.

Saturday Night's 16th running of the annual Shriner's Classic makes this event one of the longest consecutive running races in the Maritimes. The Sportsman class will battle under the lights for 50 laps at the 3/10 mile oval in hopes of taking home the prestigious Shriner's Classic Cup. This historic race was once run by the Street Stock division but was transitioned to the Sportsman when the Street Stock class was dissolved. The Shriner's Classic has had Three multiple winners: Terry Roma (3 wins, only back to back winner), Craig Slaunwhite and Harry Ross White. Six past winners are still active in the Sportsman class and five are expected to enter on Saturday night, including Harry Ross White and Terry Roma.
